FAQs

How do I remove private data?

Disk Booster’s Evidence Terminator can delete a file beyond any recovery, using Government standards, such as the Department of Defence DoD (5220.22-M), NSA and Guttman.
• The DOD standard involves overwriting a file with random patterns 10 times (10 passes of each file), changing the filename in the process.
• The NSA standard means overwriting a file with random patterns 7 times (7 passes of file).
• The Guttman method does 35 passes for even safer removal.

To start Evidence Terminator, please click on the Evidence Terminator icon in Disk Booster.

From here you can drag’n’drop files that you wish to delete, or you can add files and folder location individually. You can then select the method of erasure from Quick (1 overtime pass) to Gutmann (35 overwrite pass). We recommend that you go for Safe (3 overwrite pass) for the combination of performance and safety, or Thorough (7 overwrite pass) depending on the sensitivity of the files being erased. However, each additional overtime pass increases disk activity and will take more time to complete. To begin the process, click on Do Shredding.

You can also secure erase the contents of your Recycle bin and shred any free space on your hard-drive from this tool. Disk Booster also directly integrates into the Windows shell. You can right click on your Recycle Bin on your desktop or Windows Explorer and select to shred a file or Secure erase the entire content of your Recycle Bin with Disk Booster.

Please proceed with caution as secure file erasure will mean the files will be extremely difficult to recover.
